How to Cast a Floor So It Doesn't Tilt Easily

The floor casting process is one of the crucial stages in building a house. If not done properly, the floor can become slanted which can interfere with the aesthetics and function of the building. To ensure that the cast floor remains flat and sturdy, there are several steps that need to be considered so that the results are optimal and not easily tilted.

1. Prepare the Surface Properly
Before starting the casting process, make sure the surface of the floor to be cast is flat and free from dirt, dust, or materials that can interfere with the concrete sticking. Use tools such as an air compressor or brush to clean the area perfectly. If necessary, smooth the surface using sand or cement to adjust the surface height.

2. Install a Barrier or Sloof
To ensure that the cast floor remains flat, install a sloof or barrier on the sides of the floor to be cast. The sloof functions as a reference level that must be followed during casting. Use a thread tied to the sloof as a guide to achieve a uniform height.

3. Choose the Right Concrete Mix
The concrete used must have the right mixture composition between cement, sand, gravel, and water. A mixture that is too liquid or too thick can affect the casting results, making the floor uneven or even seeping into other parts. For home floors, the ideal concrete mixture is 1 part cement: 2 parts sand: 3 parts gravel with enough water.

4. Use a Vibrator
When the concrete is poured into the floor area, be sure to use a vibrator to remove air trapped in the concrete mixture. The use of this vibrator helps distribute the concrete more evenly and reduces the potential for air cavities that can cause imbalances in the floor.

5. Level and Smooth the Floor
After pouring the concrete, immediately level the surface with a tool such as a trowel or long ruler. Make sure that the floor surface remains parallel to the installed sloof. Do not let the concrete harden too quickly, as this can cause the floor to be uneven.

6. Let the Concrete Dry Completely
After the casting process is complete, let the concrete dry and harden properly before doing further activities. The drying time of the concrete depends on the weather, but generally takes 7-14 days to reach full strength. Avoid placing heavy loads on floors that are not completely dry.
