Differences in the Use of Plain and Threaded Reinforced Concrete

Reinforced concrete is one of the main components in the construction of building structures. However, many do not yet understand that reinforced concrete has two main types: plain reinforced concrete and threaded reinforced concrete. Although they look similar, both have different functions and roles in construction.

1. Plain Reinforced Concrete: Suitable for Bonding and Light Structures
Plain reinforced concrete has a smooth surface and is shaped like a full round cylinder. This type is usually used for:

Binder stirrups or reinforcing rings on columns

Non-permanent or small-scale building structures

Projects that do not require high grip

The advantage is that it is easy to bend and cut according to needs in the field.

2. Threaded Reinforced Concrete: Ideal for Structures that Bear Heavy Loads
Unlike the plain type, threaded reinforced concrete has a textured surface resembling fins or spiral threads. This design increases the concrete's grip on the iron, making it stronger and more resistant to tensile forces. Generally used for:

Main reinforcement for columns and beams

Slabs for multi-storey floors

Bridges and high-rise buildings

Threaded iron is more difficult to shape than plain iron, but provides much higher structural strength.

3. Difference in Price and Strength Standards
Because of its heavier strength and role, threaded concrete iron is usually more expensive than plain iron. However, the selection of the type of iron should be adjusted to the function of the structure, not just based on price.
