CARBIDE

Carbide or carbit (chemical formula CaC2) is a solid crystalline compound that is grayish-black in color and used to produce acetylene gas (C2H2), which is essential for cutting and welding iron and steel in industries such as shipbuilding, mining, automotive bodywork, and small industries. In the iron-steel smelting industry and mining (gold, nickel, copper, etc.), carbide is used as a “desulphurizing medium,” a substance that helps separate impurities from these metals. Carbide is also commonly used in welding by welders.
